A Beautiful Weed

This is the dandelion, if you didn't already know. It is an exotic species. You will see it in just about every yard from Ohio to California. It is a weed that is really hard to get rid of. When it gets windy the seeds of the dandelion fly everywhere. Some people have used them over the years to make wishes, they would make a wish and blow the seeds into the air. They are the most beautiful weeds.

The Great horned owl is large and is 18 to 25 inches and a wing span of about 40 to 60 inches. They have feathers and are usually light brown underneath and a darker brown on top and they have big bright yellow eyes. As babies the owls are preyed on by nest predators such as the raccoon. They eat small mammals such as rabbits, squirrels, and mice, they also eat other birds like ducks doves and even turkeys. Their young are called chicks. I saw one of these large birds pick up a mouse when i went to water my garden the mouse was about 6 feet away from me.

The crocodile starts at about 20 cm long and can grow to about 3.3 feet to about 15 feet depending on the species and can weigh over 2,600 pounds.They are similar to alligators. They have scaly skin on their backs that is thick And rugged and their stomachs are smooth. They are usually a greenish brown color. When crocs are young they have many predators such as birds and even large frogs but when they get older it is much harder to attack a croc. The only predators they seem to have as adults are humans with weapons, other crocs and big herbivores such as elephants and hippos. The crocodile is in the middle of the food chain because it eats other animals and other animals eat it. Crocs eat Snakes and cattle or pretty much anything that will get close enough to the water. Their young are born from eggs so they are called hatchlings, they have no specific name. I saw one attack a buffalo by the water when I was walking by.

They are also in the middle of the food chain because they eat plants and fungi and the debris of animals and they are eaten by lizards and birds such as hawks.Their young are called a mealworm. One of these landed on my hand when I was outside picking flowers.

A hawk is a carnivore and feeds on small animals like mice and other rodents. They range is size from small to large they can be a length of 22 inches and a wingspan of 55 inches and have brown feathers. They are birds so they lay eggs, their young are called an eyas. Hawks are at the top of the food chain. I saw one of these fly by me and grab a mouse.
